OMFS & surgery

Precision when it counts.

MEDISMILE is an oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) practice: specialists with dual medical and dental training plan procedures with medical safety, anatomical precision and clear ambulatory aftercare — from wisdom teeth through implantology to facial surgery. The spectrum goes beyond purely dental oral surgery.

What makes sense is decided after examination, diagnosis and your personal goals — not by trend.

At MEDISMILE Budapest, planning starts with a personal examination; options, limits, risks and alternatives are explained before treatment is agreed.

Treatment spectrum

01 · Oral & jaw surgery

01

OMFS oral surgery — beyond dental oral surgery

As OMFS specialists we combine human medicine and dentistry in multi-year specialty training — that goes beyond purely dental oral surgery. Oral procedures on teeth, gingiva and mucosa are planned with the same medical risk assessment used for more complex jaw and soft-tissue situations.

02

Jaw & soft-tissue surgery

Pathologic or functional changes of the jaw, adjacent soft tissue and neighbouring structures are assessed with imaging, clinical findings and the dental–prosthetic overall plan — the core of OMFS competence, not a generic extraction catalogue.

Medical framing
03

Wisdom teeth

Removal only when symptoms, inflammation, neighbour damage or difficult anatomy justify it. Proximity to the nerve, risk and alternatives are explained before surgery — under OMFS specialty standards, not as routine dental oral surgery.

02 · Implants & bone

04

Dental implants in demanding bone

As an OMFS specialist, Hans Krehn links implant planning with bone and soft-tissue surgery — beyond purely dental oral surgery. Complex anatomy is assessed carefully; implantation, augmentation or a less invasive alternative are weighed against each other — never promised as a blanket guarantee. 3D planning always includes the later restoration.

Medical framing
05

Immediate implantation

An implant placed at extraction when infection status, socket bone, soft tissue, primary stability and the planned prosthesis allow. Under OMFS specialty leadership MEDISMILE favours this tissue-sparing approach when those conditions are met. Immediate placement is not automatic immediate loading or a definitive crown; those decisions are separate.

Medical framing
06

Short implants

In selected cases short implants use available bone efficiently and can avoid more extensive bone augmentation. Decision factors include bone quality, diameter and position, bite load, opposing teeth, cleanability and the prosthetic plan. Principle: as little surgery as possible, as much safety and tissue as needed — framed inside the OMFS surgical concept.

Medical framing
07

Bone augmentation

Bone augmentation creates volume when existing jawbone cannot support a stable implant restoration. Technique and material follow defect size and location and the planned prosthesis — at MEDISMILE under OMFS specialty assessment, not as a stand-alone oral-surgery step. When short implants can use remaining bone safely, larger augmentation may be avoided; when augmentation remains necessary, it is part of the same OMFS plan.

03 · Facial surgery

08

Eyelid & facial surgery

Functional and aesthetic facial procedures are part of the OMFS spectrum and require precise knowledge of anatomy, nerves and soft tissue — aiming for clear correction that respects identity.

Medical framing

04 · Anaesthesia

09

General anaesthesia

Larger surgical stages can be performed under general anaesthesia when indicated. Choice follows medical history, scope and safety needs after anaesthetic assessment. Local anaesthesia remains appropriate for many smaller procedures; not every step requires general anaesthesia.

Frequently asked questions

Who carries medical responsibility at MEDISMILE Budapest?+

DR. MED. DR. MED. DENT. HANS KREHN — physician, dentist and OMFS specialist — leads the practice medically. DR. MED. DR. MED. DENT. VERONIKA KREHN works in the same specialty; dental hygienist Cintia Földi provides prophylaxis.

Why OMFS rather than purely dental oral surgery?+

Because surgery at MEDISMILE is led by dual-trained specialists. Human medicine and dentistry meet in one specialty path — equally relevant for wisdom teeth, implants, bone and facial soft tissue.

Can short implants spare a large bone augmentation?+

Sometimes. When bone height, load and the planned restoration fit, shorter implants keep surgery lighter. We weigh that against augmentation — never as a promise for every jaw.

Do wisdom teeth have to come out?+

Only when inflammation, damage to neighbouring teeth or difficult anatomy justify it. Proximity to the nerve and alternatives are explained before the procedure.
